A More Coherent Update and a FAQ
almost 8 years ago – Mon, Jul 18, 2016 at 12:10:06 AM

It's the morning after and the dust is still settling. The editor emerges from a haze of cupcake-filled celebration. It's time to work.

First things first, I will be using Backerkit to get you your surveys so we can get you your rewards next year. If that doesn't work for you, no worries! We have other means of guaranteeing you get your stuff. If you don't know what Backerkit is, don't worry! After the pledges clear (in about two weeks), I'll be posting a more detailed post about that. It's super easy and makes everyone's life a lot simpler.

Secondly, submissions guidelines will go up after everything clears. Look for a post about them on August 1.

One of the FAQs I've been getting is whether backers can submit stories. Yes! Please please do. There will be 10 slots available for stories and everyone is encouraged to submit.

I think that's it for now. Thank you all again so much!

We did it!!!!!!!!!
almost 8 years ago – Sat, Jul 16, 2016 at 11:48:12 PM

Oh man, thanks to you all (especially one astoundingly generous backer) this project is a go!

What does this mean?

First off, it means that I just spent the past ten minutes dancing around my office and squeeing.

Secondly, it means that I can start accepting submissions! Keep an eye out here for submissions guidelines!

Thirdly, it means that next year about this time you'll be reading your very own copy of this book. Huzzah!

Finally, it means that Jody Lynn Nye and Keith RA DeCandido will start working on their awesome stories!

I'll be posting a more coherent update later, but for now, thank you all so very very much for believing in this project.

Regards,

Vivian

Post-Denver Comic Con News
almost 8 years ago – Sat, Jul 16, 2016 at 05:35:36 PM

First off, thank you all so very much for backing this project! I can't even begin to say how awesome it is to have all of you here! We are 1/10th of the way to the goal and we've just barely started! Woohoo!

Next, I wanted to say hello to everyone I met at Denver Comic Con this weekend! It was a fantastic convention and truly fun to say hi to folks as they came by my table or saw me on panels. More on panels in a bit.

Also! We have been listed as a "Project We Love" by Kickstarter! This is absolutely amazing and I am thrilled to have been listed. We are also under "New and Noteworthy" on the site as well.

As a reminder, Jody Lynn Nye and Keith R. A. DeCandido will be writing stories for the anthology, but that doesn't mean that there's no space for other writers. I'm hoping to be able to have room for twelve stories total, which means that we'll have several spots open for general submissions.

Back to Denver Comic Con! While I was there on Saturday, I had the pleasure of being on a panel about science fiction and futurism. One of the themes that came up was how science fiction has had the tendency to be depressing or dystopian lately and how much that can reflect how we view the world.

This is one of the reasons why I would like this anthology to succeed. I am honestly tired of dystopian science fiction where science and humanity wreck the universe and make it so we can't have nice things. I would like to read stories about how we can save the day, how we can contribute, and how we can build new futures. Those are the stories I would like to publish and I wanted to thank you all for being here to support that dream.
